Israeli actor Juliano Mer-Khamis shot dead in Jenin
Mer-Khamis, 52, was shot five times by masked militants; he had established his name as actor, director and political activist both in Israel and abroad.

This is a tradegy. This is a guy who was director at the freedom theatre in jenin. An amazing place, a inspirational man. This is truly sad, my love to the Freedom Theatre, don't let this stop your incredible work xx

I heard last night about Juliano and was equally shocked, saddened and angered by the news. He was a force to be reckoned with, a man who didn’t smuggle weapons over boarders but speakers and lighting equipment to amplify and enlighten a theatre in a place that the West and Israel constantly tried to darken and silence. A place they often referred to as the 'birth place of suicide bombers', Jenin refugee camp, a place with an internationally respected theatre, not a terrorist but a ‘creative’ hot bed of activity. A place to oppose and find alternatives to the constant deluge of abuse and attack by the IDF.
It's a huge loss and a tragedy for those who have been left behind, his pregnant partner Jenny and his son and also those who used the theatre and knew Juliano well. The light that has come from Jenin theatre for all these years, even before Juliano, through his mother Anne, will now grow even brighter. The Freedom Theatre will live on and positive things may come from such a dark horrific occasion.
In solidarity and respect, rest in peace Juliano
Sending you all much love.

If you have never watched this film please watch it now and gain some small understanding about the West Bank and the horrific situation people have to live with, but also the hope that Juliano and his company brought to the area. We will miss you so much xxx
